From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 12, 1989:
- Two employees of the maintenance and facilities division of the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department were shown in a front-page photo today repainting the wading pool in South Park. The work was part of a renovation that had delayed the opening of the little pool until today. The project on the 43-year-old pool including repouring the bottom, resurfacing the deck, and building a new fence.
- The Federal Communications Commission informally notified Kansas University this week that it had been awarded five low-power television channels to deliver educational programming in eastern Kansas. Del Brinkman, vice chancellor for academic affairs, said today that the network was part of KU's response to a strong demand for graduate education in the Kansas City area.
