40 years ago: KC exec advises KU audience on business principles

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 11, 1974:

Kansas City business executive Ewing Kauffman told a Kansas bankers meeting here today that one of the secrets of a successful business was happy employees. Kauffman, owner of the Kansas City Royals and president of Marion Laboratories, Inc., discussed his business philosophy at the opening of the 35th annual bank management clinic at Kansas University. Kauffman told the Kansas Union audience that it was the “inherent right” of every worker who produced to share in the profits and to be permitted to own stock in the company. He also said that companies should place part of their profits into a retirement program for all employees. “Treat others as you would like to be treated” was “the finest business principle there is,” Kauffman said.
