Today in Lawrence: Mountaineer talks about Everest; artwork dedication at library

Double take

If you liked yesterday’s weather, today will be more of the same: a high of 84 degrees with an overnight low of 61. There might be some clouds here or there, but an overall enjoyable day is yours for the taking. Seize it and have a great one!

He’s tops

Mountaineer Ian Taylor will take us on the journey through the Khumbu region to Mount Everest, up to the summit, and then back down, with inside information on the politics of the mountain and the physical challenges involved. He will also discuss how his leadership and training has brought success to mountain expedition teams around the world. The free program “Everest to the Top” is at 3 p.m. at the Dole Institute, 2350 Petefish Drive.

Light streams

If you haven’t visited the new library yet, here’s another reason. The glass artwork “Ribbon of Light” will be dedicated at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. The artwork was created by artist Dierk Van Keppel of Rock Cottage Glassworks of Merriam. A reception will follow and the artist will be present to answer questions and describe his work on the project.
