Quenemo man pleads guilty to bank robbery in Franklin County

A 39-year-old Kansas man pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., to one count of bank robbery for his involvement in a robbery at a Franklin County bank in March, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said in a news release.

Robert Martin, of Quenemo, admitted Monday to helping rob Goppert State Service Bank, 118 East Franklin St. in Pomona, on March 19, Grissom said. Martin said in his guilty plea that on that day, he drove to the bank with co-defendant Caleb Jeffcoat and gave him a mask and BB gun that was altered to look more like a real gun so Jeffcoat could then enter the bank and rob a teller, Grissom said.

Jeffcoat, 26, is awaiting sentencing and another co-defendant, Christel Collins, 37, is awaiting trial. All three co-defendents are of Quenomo.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Martin’s sentencing will be set for a later date and that he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $25,000.
