Some high school course fees may be eliminated

The Lawrence school board will consider eliminating course fees for introductory elective courses in high school when it meets at 7 p.m. Monday at the administration office, 110 McDonald Dr.

In recent years, the district has phased out course fees for middle school classes due to concerns that lower-income students are reluctant to take elective courses that charge fees.

The board’s Finance Advisory Council is recommending to continue charging fees only for advanced elective courses, but to cap those at $25, and to cover the cost by reallocating revenue from the “student fee” fund, where the fund balance has been growing in recent years.
