Lawrence man to appear in court in February after discharged gun injures one

A Lawrence man charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault after a firearm discharged inside an apartment and injured the next-door neighbor is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 3.

Phillip Howard, 28, was originally scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, but that appearance was moved after he was released on a $10,000 bond.

According to Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesperson, the gun discharged after a domestic altercation about at 9:40 p.m. Saturday at Peppertree Apartments, 3100 W. 22nd St.

The bullet passed through into the next apartment, seriously injuring an occupant who was not involved in the altercation, McKinley said. He described the victim’s injuries as “likely not life-threatening.”
