Jenkins, Wakefield report contributions in 2nd District Congressional race

U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins, R-Topeka, reported raising $1.1 million last year and has $1.6 million cash on hand in her re-election effort to represent the 2nd Congressional District, which includes Lawrence.

Jenkins’ total is far more than that of her likely Democratic opponent, Margie Wakefield, of Lawrence, who reported raising $214,660 in five months.

Wakefield said she was proud of her total.

“I am so inspired by the response I’m getting from people across the district,” Wakefield said. “At a time when one in every four children and one in every three women live in poverty, voters across eastern Kansas are looking for solutions, not dysfunction. Lynn Jenkins’ Tea Party of ‘no’ simply has to go,” she said.

Jenkins praised her totals. “These numbers show that while Kansans remain deeply frustrated with Washington, D.C., they can clearly distinguish between those who are working to rebuild the American Dream and those who are supporting a misguided agenda of greater government intervention in our private lives,” Jenkins said.
