One person sustained serious injuries after a domestic dispute at a Lawrence apartment complex ended in gunfire Saturday night.

Police spokesman Sgt. Trent McKinley said the victim's injuries are "serious, but likely not life-threatening" after a firearm was discharged during a domestic altercation inside an apartment around 9:40 p.m. Saturday at Peppertree Apartments, 3100 W. 22nd St.

The bullet passed through the alleged gunman's apartment wall and struck a neighbor. The victim is not believed to have been involved in the altercation.

Two individuals were taken into custody after a brief police standoff outside the apartment complex following the shooting. McKinley said the incident is under investigation but officers are not looking for other suspects.

To me the really horifying thing about this is that you can be in your home minding your business and get shot by a bullet coming though the wall. It doesn't help to live in fear because there is absulutely nothing you can do to prevent something like this.

OMG! You are so right. Lawrence should make it a law to put bullet proof walls up in apartments or even outlaw apartments. They are so expensive anyway. Just build more homes, Right?

This story is far from accurate. the neighbor was shot through the door when he went to look in his neighbors peephole after hearing a fight and was shot through the door. Send out good thoughts to Martin for being a good guy and doing the right thing.

Thank you Jake for clarifying this. My thoughts and prayers are with Martin.

Very cool of you to do, Leslie. Martin is a really good guy who decided to intervene when he heard trouble and thankfully his injuries aren't as bad as they could have been.

This tragedy would have never happened had the victim been armed.*

*It is recommended that readers turn on their sarcasm meters before contemplating the above statement.

To Clarify: "Martin" never left his apt. Only viewed through his doors peep hole when the dispute started (originally sounded like the loud knocking was at his door). As turning from the door to walk back to his Saturday night movie with his girlfriend, that's when the shot was heard.
