Lecompton post office meeting to discuss future on Saturday

Lecompton city officials will host a community meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday to update concerned residents about the status of the local post office.

The meeting will be at the Lecompton Community Building — formerly the Lecompton High School — at 404 Woodson Ave.

According to Lynley Sanford, Lecompton City Clerk, the U.S. Postal Service is conducting a review of the Lecompton office in April, which could possibly result in a reduction of hours. The post office’s lease on the building ends in August, she said.

Lecompton’s post office, which once operated full-time, had its hours reduced to 21 and a half hours per week in 2013, to the dismay of many.
