Documentary on East Hill Singers prison choir to air on PBS

A documentary about the Lansing prison choir East Hill Singers called “Conducting Hope” will air on Kansas City Public Television at 3 p.m. Sunday.

This film, first shown at the Kansas International Film Festival in October, follows choir director Kirk Carson as he holds rehearsals for the inmates of Lansing Correctional Facility for their live performance outside of the prison at a local church. The inmates share the impact and their appreciation of the arts on their lives, and how grateful they are to have a director committed to pushing them to achieve something beautiful.

The choir sings twice a year for the community, and is one of few prison choirs in the U.S. where its inmates are allowed to leave the premises for a show.
