The National Weather Service has canceled the wind chill advisory in Lawrence for the rest of today, and the forecast calls for warming temperatures this afternoon.

At 9 a.m., the Lawrence area registered at 13 degrees with a wind chill of zero, but the below-zero temperatures brought on by the weekend's polar vortex were expected to pass. By noon, the weather service projected a high of 28 degrees with a wind chill of 18. By 4 p.m., the temperature was expected to rise above freezing to 35.

Tuesday's overnight lows are projected in the 20s. Wednesday's forecast calls for a high of 32 with a low of 20 and a 30 percent chance of light snow showers.

Later this week, the weather service projects, the polar vortex will continue to shift north back to its normal pattern, leaving Saturday and Sunday in Lawrence with highs in the low 50s.
