Topeka ? Kansas University is seeking authorization to build a $17.5 million apartment building for students near Allen Fieldhouse, according to a memo to the Kansas Board of Regents.

To be called the Fieldhouse Apartments, the building would house 66 students, some of them student athletes.

The Division of Student Housing will operate and manage the furnished apartments.

The project will be funded through a combination of private funds and bond proceeds, according to the memo.

The proposal is scheduled to be considered Monday during a meeting of the regents’ Fiscal Affairs and Audit Committee.

KU is requesting authorization to amend its 2014 capital improvements plan to include the project.
