Kansas swimmers set school relay record

? Kansas University’s 800-yard freestyle relay team set the school record in the event at the first day of the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

The KU team of Morgan Sharp, Haley Molden, Chelsie Miller and Allison Merecka placed second in 7:11.99 to beat a 5-year-old KU record of 7:13.86.

“We achieved our goals today in the 800 free relay and I expect to see the same thing happening tomorrow in individual events,” KU coach Clark Campbell said.

To start the meet, the Jayhawks placed third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.63), also setting an in-season best time . Yulduz “Yulya” Kuchkarova, Bryce Hinde, Pia Pavlic and Leah Pfitzer represented the Jayhawks in the race.

After two events, Kansas is in second with 66 points. Texas leads with 80 and is followed by KU, Iowa State (62), West Virginia (62) and TCU (58).

The meet resumes today and runs through Saturday.
