Letter: Fluoride, thyroid

To the editor:

Fluoride vs. no fluoride in drinking water is the problem. Fluoride prevents cavities but does it promote thyroid problems because the thyroid gland needs iodine? If the fluoride is more soluble in water and  beats the iodine from getting to the thyroid, hypothyroidism may result.

Poland and Japan are just some countries that do not agree with fluoride in water. It would be an interesting study of the U.S. vs. other countries on levothyroxine for thyroid problems. Maybe the final question is: Do we want thyroid problems or dental cavities? Is the fluoride that is in our water causing this problem?
