Lawrence woman jailed on battery charges after vehicle-pedestrian collision

A 26-year-old Lawrence woman is in Douglas County Jail after a vehicle she was driving allegedly struck a man in East Lawrence on Monday afternoon.

Georgianna Lynn Aguilar was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery shortly after police responded to a reported vehicle–pedestrian accident in the 700 block of New York Street.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman, said that when police first responded, they discovered a man on the ground near the intersection of Seventh and New York streets. Witnesses reported seeing the passenger side of a Ford Excursion driven by Aguilar strike the man and debris was found at the scene, McKinley said.

Lawrence police caught up with Aguilar at an apartment near 27th and Iowa streets, according to McKinley.

The condition and identity of the man, whom McKinley said was airlifted to a Kansas City-area trauma center, has not yet been released.

When police found Aguilar, McKinley said, she also had injuries to her face, which she said the man caused. McKinley said that affidavits from both were forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review.
