For the second time in about a month, Lawrence police are investigating a burglary and theft of prescription drugs at a Dillons pharmacy.
According to Lawrence Police Department spokesman Sgt. Trent McKinley, an unidentified suspect entered through the roof of the Dillons at 1015 W. 23rd St. early Tuesday morning, a little more than a month after a similar incident on Jan. 9.
McKinley couldn’t say whether the suspect gained access from the exterior of the building or if the roof entrance was opened through the interior, but he said the pharmacy was the target of the burglary. Police sent nine units to the store when they believed it to be a burglary in process just before 4 a.m. After reviewing security footage, McKinley said, police determined that the burglary occurred sometime between 12:22 a.m. and 12:36 a.m. McKinley said the suspect caused about $500 in damage to ceiling tiles and light fixtures and assorted medications were taken.
McKinley said that the circumstances surrounding this burglary and the one on Jan. 9 have led police to believe that the incidents are related. Early on the morning of Jan. 9, according to a public offense report, a suspect caused similar damage to the store and stole nearly $300 in prescription drugs, including hydrocodone and vicodin.
