Stabbing victim died from ‘traumatic injury,’ Lawrence police say

Detectives with the Lawrence Police Department are still investigating a reported fatal stabbing that took place early Sunday morning.

At 3:08 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to an unknown emergency at a unit in Northwinds Apartments in the 1100 block of George Court, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, police spokesman. There, they found an adult man dead from “a traumatic injury,” according to McKinley.

“It is still early in the investigation,” McKinley said, noting detectives were processing the crime scene and conducting interviews. The victim’s identity would be withheld pending a coroner’s examination, McKinley said.

A release from Lawrence police did not describe the weapon that killed the victim, but the department’s call log shows seven units reported to a stabbing at that address early Sunday.

If the death is determined to be a homicide, it would be the city’s fifth since last July, after almost five years with no homicides reported.
