Kansas inauguration schedule announced

? A weekend of inauguration activities is being planned for Jan. 10-12, with events leading up to the swearing-in of Gov. Sam Brownback, Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer and other elected state officials.

The schedule begins with the inaugural ball at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan.10, at the Kansas Expocentre’s Landon Arena. The highlight of the ball is a traditional “grand march” that features all of the newly elected state officials and their spouses, including the governor and lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state treasurer and insurance commissioner and other elected officials.

The lineup of entertainment for the ball has not yet been announced.

A prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, in the DeMattias Performance Hall at Newman University in Topeka.

The formal swearing-in ceremonies will take place Monday, Jan. 12, on the south side of the State Capitol in Topeka beginning at 11 a.m.

The events are being organized by Brownback Colyer Inauguration 2015, Inc., a nonprofit organization that is raising private donations for the events.
