Chance of light snow overnight, but a warm Christmas

A mix of rain and snow is predicted this evening in Lawrence, but steadily warming temperatures the next couple of days will melt off any accumulations by Wednesday afternoon.

“Any accumulations we have won’t be significant or long lasting,” said Brandon Drake of the National Weather Service in Topeka.

The only chance of snow for Lawrence in the next few days will come in the next 12-18 hours. Rain is expected to start around 6 or 7 this evening and change to snow around 9 p.m. Snow is expected to fall overnight and through the early morning, with accumulation of about an inch.

But with temperatures expected to reach the mid-30s to upper 40s by early afternoon on Wednesday, any snow accumulations will melt quickly.

For Christmas Day, mild temperatures and no rain are expected, with highs in the low 50s.
