40 years ago: Police arrest men who broke into school to play basketball

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 23, 1974:

An impromptu basketball game ended in arrest for six players at Lawrence High School. Police said a man jogging on the track outside the school on a recent Saturday night had seen some men lean a board against the west wall of the school and enter through a window into the equipment room. The jogger had contacted school officials, who had then called the police. Lawrence police, a teacher at the school, and the jogger then entered the building and heard a basketball being dribbled in the gymnasium. As police entered the gym, the six men allegedly had fled out the northwest door but collided with other officers entering from that direction. Police said one of the arrested men had earlier been given permission to use the gym but had been asked to leave.
