To the editor:

Thank you for your continued coverage of links between the Koch brothers and Kansas University.

Art Hall, director of the Center for Applied Economics, located in the KU Business School, recently obtained an injunction to prevent KU from releasing the emails in his KU account (which are, by law, KU’s property). 

On the one hand, he seems to be saying, “This is a private think-tank funded by private money — it’s none of the university’s business. Mitts off!” But on the other hand, he’s also saying, “Oh, by the way, I’m really a KU employee. Therefore I enjoy the protections afforded by academic freedom.”

You can’t have it both ways. Either you’re on the Koch Brothers’ payroll or you’re on the public dime. If it’s the former, then fine — but do it somewhere else. If it’s the latter, then Mr. Hall should be subject to the same regulations as other KU employees.
