Reaney reaches 50-meter finals

? Emma Reaney, a Notre Dame senior swimmer and a Lawrence High graduate, advanced to the finals of the women’s 50-meter breaststoke Wednesday in the FINA Short Course World Championships.

Reaney finished eighth in the semifinals in a time of 30.32. Ruta Meilutyte was first in the semifinals in a time of 28.81.

“I thought I’d be more nervous,” Reaney said, “but I’m just so excited to be here.”

The finals were scheduled for today.

“This is something that I’ve always dreamed of,” Reaney said, “to be able to swim with the American flag on the cap. This is as good a place as any to start. I’m very honored.’

Reaney is scheduled to swim the 100-meter breaststroke on Friday and the 200-meter breaststroke on Sunday.
