Lawrence police: Driver arrested after accident with animal control officer, brief police chase

Lawrence police officers and paramedics attend a driver who struck a city Animal Control vehicle and took off, instigating a police chase that ended in the 2200 block of Marvonne Road on Wednesday.

A female driver is in custody after fleeing the scene of an accident with an animal control vehicle and leading Lawrence police on a brief chase through Kansas University’s west campus Wednesday.

Captain Anthony Brixius of the Lawrence Police Department said the woman and an animal control officer were involved in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Clinton Parkway and Crestline Drive Wednesday afternoon.

When the woman fled the scene of the accident in her car, the animal control officer followed her onto KU’s west campus, where an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Brixius said.

The driver did not stop for the police officer and continued to flee, Brixius said, leading the officer on a short police chase through the campus and parts of south Lawrence. Brixius said the chase ended in the 2200 block of Marvone Road when police stopped the driver and took her into custody.

The driver’s name has not yet been released. She appeared to have suffered minor injuries in the crash.
