Lawrence man, 25, charged with seven drug-related crimes

A 25-year-old Lawrence man was charged with seven drug-related crimes Friday, including intent to distribute illegal substances, possession and using a communication facility to facilitate a drug deal.

Kristopher Ryan Johnson appeared before Douglas County District Court Judge James T. George on Friday afternoon and was charged with three counts of intent to distribute marijuana, two counts of using a communication facility to facilitate a drug transaction, one count of possessing drug paraphernalia and once count of possessing cocaine.

George said each of the distribution charges carry a sentence of up to 83 months in prison, the communication facility charges carry sentences of up to 23 months, and the possession of drugs and paraphernalia charges carry sentences of up to 42 months in prison.

Johnson is out of jail on an own-recognizance bond, meaning he was released without paying any money as long as he follows through on the promise to show up for any court appearances and not engage in illegal activity.

Johnson will make his next appearance in court on Aug. 13.
