Lawrence police: Man charged with aggravated assault after threatening gamblers with fake gun

A Guerrero, Mexico, man was charged with aggravated assault Thursday after threatening friends with a fake gun Tuesday night during a gambling game, according to Lawrence police.

Casimiro Luis Pacheco, 26, was booked into the Douglas County Jail Wednesday after an altercation at a home in the 800 block of Michigan Street around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night.

Lawrence Police Department spokesman Trent McKinley said Pacheco had been gambling with two acquaintances who ran out of money. Pacheco was intoxicated and became angry when the two individuals refused to gamble further, McKinley said.

McKinley said Pacheco then produced an airsoft gun that was made to look like a handgun and threatened the victims with it. Pacheco then chased after the two victims, who fled to a residence in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road, police said. Pacheco was arrested there around 1 a.m. Wednesday after residents of the home called police, according to McKinley.

If convicted, Pacheco could receive a sentence of up to 34 months in prison. His next appearance in court will be Aug. 13.
