Woman hospitalized after alleged stabbing Sunday morning

One woman was hospitalized early Sunday morning after an alleged stabbing along the 1600 block of Haskell Avenue in Lawrence.

Sgt. Damon Thomas, a spokesman with the Lawrence Police Department, said police were told that a couple was walking down the sidewalk when a car pulled up next to them. A woman got out of the car and started arguing with the man on the sidewalk. The other half of the couple, a woman in her early 20s, “got in the middle of it,” and was then reportedly stabbed by the other woman.

The perpetrators fled in their car, the alleged victim told police.

The injured woman then made her way to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she reported the incident to police shortly before 5 a.m. She underwent surgery for non-life-threatening injuries today, Thomas said, though her condition is unknown.

Police have not identified any suspects yet, Thomas said.
