Kansas legislators resume work on state budget

? Kansas legislators working on finishing the state budget are hearing better revenue projections for the next 18 months.

House Appropriations Committee members met Wednesday to work on a budget bill that would cover spending for the current year and in 2015, including more than $360 million for the Department of Corrections. Overall state revenues were revised upward by $177 million earlier in April.

Much of the spending for the next two years was addressed when legislators recessed April 6.

Gov. Sam Brownback has already signed a $129 million education bill to satisfy a Kansas Supreme Court decision on state aid to school districts. A lower court is scheduled to review the bill July 11 to determine if it complies with the high court’s ruling.
