Lawrence police investigate series of car break-ins

Lawrence police are attempting to identify three men suspected in a string of vehicle break-ins that occurred early Monday morning.

At 2 a.m. Monday, a resident in the 1800 block of West 27th Terrace spotted three men dressed in black taking items from his vehicle. After the resident interrupted the suspects, they fled on foot, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley.

While the suspects ran away, they dropped some of the stolen items, including a cell phone, McKinley said. Officers later determined that four other vehicles on West 27th Terrace had been entered.

During their search of the area, officers did not locate the suspects. McKinley said officers are processing the recovered items with the hope that they will help with identification.

Other than the recovered cell phone, missing items include eight dollars worth of coins and a stereo faceplate valued at $100, according to police.
