Local nonprofit looking to collect 2,000 more pounds of aluminum cans

Cans for Community, a local nonprofit, is attempting to collect and recycle 5,000 pounds of aluminum cans in April.

According to a news release, the group is about 2,000 pounds short.

Donations can be dropped off at more than a dozen locations:

Checkers Foods, 2300 Louisiana St.; Cork & Barrel, 901 Mississippi St.; Dillons, 1015 W. 23rd St. and 4701 W. 6th St.; Hillcrest Shopping Center, 914 Iowa St.; Hy-Vee, 4020 W. 6th St. and 3504 Clinton Parkway; Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2104 Bob Billings Parkway; Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine St.; Miller Mart, 2301 Wakarusa Drive; On the Rocks, 1818 Massachusetts St.; Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 New Hampshire St.; 12th & Haskell Recycle Center, 1006 E. 11th St.

Cans can also be delivered to the Cans for Community tent at the Earth Day Celebration in South Park on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
