40 years ago: Lawrence bank robbed at gunpoint

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 17, 1974:

In the first bank robbery in the memory of most Lawrence residents, two gunmen took an undetermined amount of cash from the First National Bank branch at 23rd and Ridge Court today. The holdup had occurred at about 10:30 a.m. while three customers were in the bank. No one was injured during the robbery. Bank president Warren Rhodes declined to say how much money had been stolen during the robbery or how much was usually kept at the branch, but one figure circulating later in the day put the loss at $40,000, an amount neither confirmed nor denied by police or bank officials.
