A 41-year-old woman escaped custody, was Tasered and then placed back into custody early Sunday morning after being arrested on a pedestrian under the influence charge, according to Lawrence police.

Jennifer Forman, of McLouth, was almost struck by vehicle near the intersection of 23rd and Iowa Streets around midnight Sunday, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Damon Thomas. An officer then approached Forman and arrested her on suspicion of being a pedestrian under the influence, Thomas said.

But on the way to Douglas County Jail, Forman freed herself from her handcuffs, jumped out of the police vehicle and fled, Thomas said. The officer chased after Forman, and a fight ensued, according to police.

“A Taser was deployed, and then the woman was taken into custody,” Thomas said.

Forman was booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of multiple crimes, including pedestrian under the influence, escape from custody and aggravated battery.

Wow, I am torn between being appalled and impressed. Of course it is a good thing she was arrested before someone ran over her which would have totally ruined the drivers day and no I am not being facetious. It is horrifying for a driver to go though something like this, an ongoing nightmare for the rest of their life.

I thought police cars could not be opened from the inside. How exactly did she get out of those cuffs? Did she say something along the line of, "Heck, officer, I don't know what the problem is, I can walk better when I am drunk than when I am sober." Not.

As someone who lived there for two years and had a head on collision on main street near our former home nothing the denizens of McLouth does surprises me. I'm surprised she didn't yell "Hey y'all watch this". The footage should be on Cops or Ridiculousness in the future.

I know this person, she is not a person that is a menace to society and a business women. Sounds like something that went from bad to worse. Btw- Don't throw her in with Mclouth people as she doesn't even live there. But she is a good person and not one that is out causing problems. Judge if you want but not a person that you should throw stones at. And if I know LPD probably tased for no real reason other than...hey look im a bad cop and have a taser, cant wait to use it on somebody. This girl is not very big in size, seems strange that they had to tase her. Don't know if she became irate or billigerant but wouldn't think it needed to go to the extreme that it did. If I was her I would get an attorney and file a lawsuit against the LPD.

Been writing satire long? If not, at least you have a good start on doing so.

being civilized is not a prerequisite to some of the people I remember. freeing oneself while in the back of a police car without acknowledging police authority is not very civilized. see the connection?
