Police: McLouth woman escapes handcuffs, jumps from police car, subdued with Taser

A 41-year-old woman escaped custody, was Tasered and then placed back into custody early Sunday morning after being arrested on a pedestrian under the influence charge, according to Lawrence police.

Jennifer Forman, of McLouth, was almost struck by vehicle near the intersection of 23rd and Iowa Streets around midnight Sunday, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Damon Thomas. An officer then approached Forman and arrested her on suspicion of being a pedestrian under the influence, Thomas said.

But on the way to Douglas County Jail, Forman freed herself from her handcuffs, jumped out of the police vehicle and fled, Thomas said. The officer chased after Forman, and a fight ensued, according to police.

“A Taser was deployed, and then the woman was taken into custody,” Thomas said.

Forman was booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of multiple crimes, including pedestrian under the influence, escape from custody and aggravated battery.
