Arbor Day Foundation names Lawrence ‘Tree City USA’

Lawrence has been named a “Tree City USA” for the 36th consecutive year by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

The city was chosen because it met the four core standards of sound urban forestry management: having a tree department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.

The achievement will be celebrated in conjunction with the city’s Earth Day celebration on April 19. The celebration will include the planting of shade, evergreen and ornamental trees in Oak Hill and Memorial Park cemeteries.
