40 years ago: Two KU students feared drowned at Lake Perry

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 10, 1974:

A search began today for two Kansas University students believed to have drowned after a boating accident at Perry Lake. A third student had been nearly unconscious when he was rescued from the 46-degree lake waters by two fishermen. Before being transported by helicopter to Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, he had “mumbled something about two other persons being missing,” according to a report published today. A search had then started and continued into the night, yielding a capsized sailboat and two life jackets. Because of strong winds, dragging operations were not instituted until later in the search.
