KU student arrested on suspicion of raping acquaintance in residence hall

A 19-year-old Kansas University student was arrested early Wednesday morning on suspicion of raping a fellow student Tuesday afternoon inside a residence hall.

Major Chris Keary, assistant chief of the KU Public Safety Office, said a female student reported being raped by an acquaintance in the suspect’s room at Gertrude Sellards Pearson residence hall between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Following an investigation, the suspect was arrested by KU police just after 4 a.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of Crestline Drive.

Keary said the victim was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for an evaluation but did not need to be treated for any physical injuries.
