Federal prosecutors charge Lawrence man with falsifying tax return

Federal prosecutors charged a 30-year-old Lawrence man with filing a false tax return that incorrectly claimed federal tax withholdings of more than $300,000, the U.S Attorney’s office said Wednesday.

Bradley Stoneking faces up to three years in federal prison if convicted of making false statements on a 2010 income tax return, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom. Stoneking is accused of falsely claiming federal tax withholdings of about $330,000 on gambling winnings when the actual tax withholding on his winnings was $300.

If convicted, Stoneking could also be fined up to $250,000.
