Free vocal concert at KU to feature potpourri of song

Thomas Dreeze, baritone, and Jayne Siemens, soprano, will present “Together Again for the First Time” on Sept. 26, 2013, at Kansas University.

Jayne Siemens, soprano, and Thomas Dreeze, baritone, will present “Together Again for the First Time” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Swarthout Recital Hall, inside Murphy Hall at 1530 Naismith Drive.

The free performance is part of the Kansas University School of Music’s Visiting Artist Series.

Siemens and Dreeze first met as aspiring student opera stars at the University of Michigan in the early 1980s. Their professional careers have taken them from America’s heartland to the capitals of Europe and throughout the United States, but this will be the two friends’ first performance together.

Their program includes music spanning four centuries — from Purcell to Cole Porter, from art song to opera, sacred to musical theater — to feature their dramatic and interpretive abilities. Accompanist for the recital is Ellen Bottorff, lecturer in piano at KU.
