66th annual KU Band Day set for Saturday

Kansas University’s School of Music will celebrate the tradition of the Marching Jayhawks Saturday as it holds the 66th annual Band Day.

While the traditional Band Day parade will not take place this year because of the 11 a.m. kickoff time of the KU football game, 17 Kansas and Missouri high school bands will join the KU band to perform classic University songs including “I’m a Jayhawk,” “Kansas Song” and “Fighting Jayhawk” at the halftime show.

The KU School of Music, Kansas Athletics and KU Endowment also will launch a fundraising campaign for new Marching Jayhawks uniforms in conjunction with Band Day. Organizers of the campaign, titled, “The Tradition Marches On,” aim to raise $300,000 to purchase new uniforms by next marching season.
