To the editor:

I appreciated Sara Shepherd’s Journal-World article about The Raven Book Store at 6 E. Seventh in downtown Lawrence. Many of us know Pat Kehde and Mary Lou Wright, the founders, and we are pleased that The Raven is celebrating its 25th year in business. The quote by owner Heidi Raak, “People in Lawrence are so loyal to us…” is also about me. I used to go into the nearby Borders to look at books and, when I found one I wanted, I would go over to The Raven and order it from them.

How nice for you that you would spend time in one store so that you could order an item from another, competing store. You're a real saint. If you were so opposed to Borders' existence, why would you darken their door with your presence? I suppose you couldn't have come up with a book to order unless you had. That would mean that Borders was a positive addition to the community. So where do you come up with ideas for new books now, Hastings?

Oh look, someone who only likes the way a system works when it supports his guys and when someone else does it to support another guy, it's sudden wrong.

Must be a republican.

Oh wait....

While it is nice Raven provides jobs and pays taxes, don't forget Borders also provided jobs and paid taxes. While Borders may not have been locally owned, the workers were local and now out of jobs. I admire locally owned businesses, but just because a business is not locally owned does not make it evil.
