40 years ago: Meat prices finally drop at local groceries

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 16, 1973:

  • Food price changes were getting attention in Lawrence over the past week. Meat prices had dropped and more cuts had become available, which was welcome news to those who had been inconvenienced by the past month’s shortage. On the other hand, prices had risen for most foods except for produce, compared to the previous month.
  • Movies showing at Lawrence theaters this week included “Oklahoma Crude,” “The Day of the Jackal,” “Blume in Love,” “Clockwork Orange,” “The Harrad Experimen,” “Scarecrow,” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Patrons of the Sunset Drive-In could see the double feature “When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth” and “When Women Had Tails” (billed as “A Stone Age Laff Riot!”).
