A Kansas University Hospital sports medicine clinic will officially open to the public today at the Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City.

Ribbon cutting at the clinic is scheduled for 4 p.m at the sports complex. KU Hospital CEO Bob Page and Kansas City Chiefs board chairman and CEO Clark Hunt are both scheduled to speak at the event.

The clinic, named the Center for Sports Medicine, is one of the few of its kind within the National Football League, a statement released by the clinic said. It will treat both Chiefs players and “community athletes” onsite at the Chiefs’ training grounds, which underwent a name change from Chiefs Training Facility to KU Hospital Training Complex.

The statement the described clinic as a “unique pairing of community-wide medical care alongside professional athletic training” that is “one of the most comprehensive healthcare partnerships with a professional sports team.”

The public will get access to the clinic’s diagnostic tools and treatments as well as orthopedic surgeons and other medical professionals who treat Chief’s players.
