The youth ministry of Christ Community Church, along with nine other local churches, hopes to knock out hunger during the Third Battle Royal - a Food Fight Against Hunger from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1100 Kasold Dr.
The event will include live music by Jonathan Thulin, free pizza, potato sack races and a slip-n-slide covered in chocolate syrup. The main event is a 15-minute food fight featuring mustard and ketchup, flour, smashed potatoes and gravy and a finale with 3,000 water ballons. The potatoes are inedible and donated by an area food production company, so the event will not waste food.
The event is a food drive for Just Food, the Douglas County food bank.
“The reason we do this is to help meet a need, and feeding people is probably one of the biggest needs we have in the community,” said Glenn Fletcher, pastor of student ministries.
Guests are encouraged to bring five pounds of non-perishable food or make a $5 donation to help the participating churches meet their goal of collecting 5,000 pounds of food. The food fight is for youth ages 12-19, but everyone is invited to watch the fight and participate in the other activities at the church, organizers said.
