Baldwin City teen injured after losing control of car on U.S. Highway 59

A 17-year-old Baldwin City male was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injures Wednesday after losing control of his vehicle on U.S. Highway 59 in Douglas County.

The driver was northbound on Highway 59 during heavy rains when he went off the road about three miles south of Lawrence, according to Undersheriff Jim Martin, a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Martin said the driver has a medical history but that it was not certain whether it caused the accident.

After going off the road, the car hit an embankment and went airborne before coming to rest, according to Martin. He said the driver was coherent and alert as he was taken to the hospital.
