Suspect still sought in hit-and-run involving bicyclist

Lawrence police are still seeking a suspect in a hit-and-run accident that involved a bicyclist on Massachusetts Street last week.

Timothy James Campsey, 33, of Lawrence, was airlifted to Stormont Vail Hospital Oct. 11 after he was struck by what police described as a dark sport utility vehicle with a chrome bumper.

The vehicle was traveling southbound on Massachusetts Street and turned west onto 15th Street when it hit Campsey, who was biking south in the crosswalk at 11:35 p.m. The vehicle then continued westbound on 15th Street, according to Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman.

Campsey, who was later released from Stormont Vail, told the officer at the scene that he could not remember what happened, according to the accident report.

The officer reported that she could see blood coming from the back of Campsey’s head, but no other apparent injuries.
