Snowflakes a possibility, but not a concern, in Lawrence this evening

Ready for winter?

Lawrence may see some light snow or sleet pellets tonight, but the city’s public works department is not planning for snow accumulation, according to city spokeswoman Megan Gilliland.

Road temperatures are in the low 50s and bridge decks are in the mid 40s, Gilliland said.

Snowflakes began creeping across Kansas this morning, mixing with rain along parts of Interstate 70. The National Weather Service in Topeka forecasted a chilly and rainy day for the Lawrence area.

The weather service issued a freeze warning in effect from 10 p.m., Friday to 9 a.m., Saturday. Rain showers are expected to exit to the east before midnight, leaving behind chilly overnight conditions with lows in the mid-30s. A patchy frost will be possibly early Saturday morning.
