Wichita Free State High’s girls golf team and two individuals from Lawrence High qualified for the state golf meet based on their performances Monday at a Class 6A regional at Clapp Golf Course.
Free State’s Emily Bermel led the city schools with her fifth-place finish at 83. Other FSHS results: Karen Campbell, ninth, 86; Erin Meyers, 17th, 94; Maddie Williams, 18th, 97; Anne Goebel, 29th, 116; and Catie Griffin, 31st, 119.
The Firebirds placed third in the regional with 360 strokes.

“I am proud of the way the team performed today,” Firebirds coach Layne Meyer said. “They have worked hard this season, and I am glad that they can see their hard work pay off.
“I’m excited for them. It’s great that they will all have the opportunity to take this next step.”
Lawrence High shot 393 and placed fourth, but the top five golfers not on qualifying teams also earn state berths.
