The coaches are split.

For just the third time in Big 12 history, there is a tie at the top of the conference’s preseason poll, as Kansas and Oklahoma State were both selected to win the league regular-season crown.

KU and OSU had an identical number of first-place votes (five) and points (77) in the poll. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

“Like I’ve said all along, preseason predictions don’t mean much,” KU head coach Bill Self said. “I know going into it that other teams in our league, primarily Oklahoma State, return basically their entire team and we have a lot of newcomers. We’ve got a lot of work to do to put ourselves in a position to play for a championship. I am excited about the pieces we have and I look forward to the challenge of being able to compete in what will be, once again, a highly competitive league.”

It’s the 12th time in league history that KU has been selected as the favorite to win the league. The Jayhawks have won or shared nine straight regular-season conference titles.

Baylor and Iowa State were third and fourth, respectively, while Kansas State and Oklahoma were tied for fifth.
