40 years ago: Funding issues discussed for Clinton Reservoir and Parkway

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 10, 1973:

  • A preliminary draft of a bill to provide funding for Clinton Parkway had been completed and was on its way to local officials and then to the House of Representatives. U.S. Rep. Larry Winn, R-Kan., said this morning that the bill called for an expenditure of $5 million, an amount more in line with recent cost estimates. Inflated construction costs since 1971 and additional costs of a bicycle path and noise barriers, both required by the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency, had caused the increased costs.
  • An additional $12 million to continue construction of Clinton Reservoir was the largest money request for fiscal year 1975 included in a batch of Kansas water projects being presented by the Mo-Ark River Basin Association. The group had given its requests in Washington this week to officials of the federal office of management and budget. Clinton Reservoir had had $7.8 million appropriated for it this fiscal year.
