40 years ago: Site selected for new KU Law School building

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 9, 1973:

The location of Kansas University’s new Law School was revealed today. Chancellor Archie Dykes said that an area between Jayhawker Towers and Murphy Hall had been selected for the $4.9 million building. John Conard, director of university relations, said that the availability of parking was one factor in the site selection. Another site that had been considered was across the street, near Learned Hall. The new building would replace the current home of the Law School, which had been housed in Green Hall (later renamed Lippincott Hall) since 1905. The proposed structure was to have 71,765 square feet of usable space, with a total area of about 110,000 square feet. Special features were to include a 43,510-square-foot law library; 29 faculty offices; a 3,300-square-foot administrative complex; and offices for the book exchange, the KU Law Review, and clinical service and research. The 1974 Kansas Legislature was expected to appropriate construction funds.
