— Junior outside hitters Sara McClinton and Chelsea Albers combined for 25 kills, and Kansas University swept Kansas State in Big 12 volleyball Wednesday at Ahearn Fieldhouse.

KU beat the Wildcats, 31-29, 26-24, 25-19, for its eighth straight victory.

There were 33 ties and 15 lead changes in the 100th all-time meeting between the Sunflower State rivals (KSU leads 61-39). It was just the third KU sweep in Manhattan in the series.

“We seem to be pretty composed of late,” KU coach Ray Bechard said. “They stayed with the game plan and made big plays. I think that’s a combination of being both experienced and being in that situation before on the road against good teams. It’s obviously a great win to beat a high-level team on the road, and, obviously, there’s some added interest in this match.”

Kansas (12-3 overall, 2-0 Big 12) tied its fifth-longest all-time winning streak and won its third straight against K-State (12-3, 0-2) for the first time since 1993.

Albers had six kills in the first set. She finished with 12 kills and just two errors. McClinton led all players with 13 kills.

Erin McNorton had 41 assists and a service ace for the Jayhawks.

Freshman middle blocker Tayler Soucie had seven blocks and nine kills.

Kansas will travel Saturday to Baylor.

Great job ladies!!! I enjoyed watching you play - the talent seems to be getting better each year coach. I worked under Marv Dunphy, our US Olympic Volleyball coach at Pepperdine, you girls and coach seem to be doing what he always taught, be aggressive - very aggressive.

Keep it going!!
