More than 130 vendors were crammed into every crevice on every one the three floors of the Lawrence Arts Center on Friday evening for the Bizarre Bazaar, an arts and crafts show held each year during the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The Bizarre Bazaar, or “BizBaz,” as it’s come to be known, is in its 25th year, and it’s celebrating with more of the same: experimental, up-cycled and sometimes unusual goods.

“People know they can try different stuff at this show and it will be well-received,” said Elenor Buffington, a co-administrator of the show. “The idea is to have fun, try stuff out and see how it goes. It doesn’t get much better than that for the artists.”

Hundreds of shoppers scooted from one table to the next on Friday, buying jewelry, scarves, ceramics, paintings, and other, more “bizarre” merchandise, such as “Hatimals,” skateboard art and hand painted acrylic nails from the mostly local vendors.

Though it was only a couple of hours in, Buffington said there had been a steady group of people so far, on par with attendance during previous years.

“This community really supports this event in a really special way,” Buffington said. “A lot of people try to come out every year because they get to see things here that they don’t see at other craft shows.”

The BizBaz will continue Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be more live music, food and a belly dancing performance.
